CLASSIC PYRAMID (71 POINTS)

CLASSIC PYRAMID (71 POINTS)

1. Objective of the Game

The objective is to score 71 points or more before the opponent.

2. Balls Used

  • Fifteen white numbered object balls (1–15);
  • One colored (preferably yellow) cue ball.

3. Initial Rack

The fifteen object balls are racked in a fixed numerical order in a triangle with the apex on the back spot.
The cue ball is placed in baulk.

4. Break Shot

The break is played with ball-in-hand from baulk in accordance with §§11–12 of the General Rules of Pyramid.

5. Rules of Play and Scoring

5.1 Each legally pocketed object ball scores points equal to its number; the 1-ball (ace) scores 11 points.
The final remaining object ball scores 10 points, regardless of number.

5.2 Shots must be called: the player must clearly declare the object ball and the pocket.

5.3 If the called shot is made legally, all balls pocketed on that stroke are counted.

5.4 An uncalled ball pocketed is respotted.

5.5 Pocketing or jumping the cue ball results in a foul; the opponent then plays with ball-in-hand from baulk.

5.6 Each foul results in –5 points for the offender and +5 points for the opponent.

5.7 If both players reach 70 points, the last object ball is spotted on the back spot and play continues after a lag.

5.8 Any stroke (except the break) must comply with §20 of the General Rules of Pyramid.

6. Putting the Cue Ball into Play (Ball-in-Hand from Baulk)

6.1 When playing with ball-in-hand from baulk, the cue ball may be placed anywhere within the baulk area, but not on the baulk line and not in contact with any object ball located in baulk.

6.2 If, while placing the cue ball in baulk, any ball is touched, a foul is assessed, and after removal of the penalty ball the right to put the cue ball into play with ball-in-hand from baulk passes to the opponent.

6.3 If the cue ball is placed outside the baulk area, the referee or the opponent must warn the incoming player before the stroke is executed.
If no warning is given, the cue ball placement is considered legal.

6.4 Until the cue ball is struck, it may be adjusted by hand or by the cue (including the tip).
Once the cue ball has been positioned, any stroke applied to it is considered as putting the cue ball into play.

6.5 Any object ball may be pocketed into any pocket after the cue ball contacts any object ball located outside baulk.

6.6 A stroke from baulk is considered illegal and is penalized if:

  1. the cue ball contacts a ball located in baulk before leaving the baulk area; or
  2. the cue ball fails to contact any ball located outside baulk.

7. Spotting Balls

All incorrectly pocketed, uncalled, and jumped object balls are respotted in accordance with §25 of the General Rules of Pyramid.
